Hi! My name is Rebecca, and I’m a rising senior at the University of Michigan, and a native Michigander. I am studying Health and Fitness through the School of Kinesiology, and I’m interested in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, and Public Health.
This short-term trip is focused on Fundamental Motor Skills development in preschoolers in Australia. With the help of Dr. Leah Robinson and her Ph.D student Kara, I and 11 fellow Kines students work within local preschools in Wollongong, NSW to assess the children’s motor skills, develop interventions to help improve these skills, and in our last week, we will reassess the children to see if our interventions had a significant impact. It’s a great opportunity to gain international experience while also developing practical research skills, and I encourage any students reading this to look into this or similar opportunities, because it’s been a blast so far!
